The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana, a central sector scheme, is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme for the Small and Marginal landholder farmers of entry age group of 18 to 40 years with a provision of Rs. 3000/- monthly pension on attaining the age of 60 years.
An evaluation of the research information below indicates that:
1. Of the approximately 12.6 Crore Small Landholder Farmers, the proportional share of farmers who’s age would qualify them for the scheme (18 to 40 years – a 22 years span, from a total lifespan of 70.8 years in 2019, according to WHO Data; i.e. 52.8 years as a ‘farmer’) is approximately 42% i.e. 5.25 Crore Farmers.
2. As of February 2024, 23.38 Lakh Farmers have enrolled in the PM KMY Scheme.
It can therefore be concluded that:
The Government’s implementation actions provide no benefits to 95.5% of eligible farmers; translating to approximately 5.02 crore unserved eligible farmers.

This scheme provides payment of Rs 3000 per month to eligible farmers on attaining the age of 60 years. It is a voluntary and contribution based pension scheme, with equal contributions by the subscribing farmers as well as the Central Government, to be credited into a pension fund to managed by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC).
3. Question No. 2358 (Unstarred), Lok Sabha 17, Session 2, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, December 3, 2019, As of November 2019, 18.8 lakh farmers have registered under the Scheme.
4. Question No. 1299 (Unstarred), Lok Sabha 17, Session 6, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, July 27, 2021, the enrolment of eligible farmers under PM-Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana (PM KMY) started by CSC from 9th August, 2019 and at the time of launching of the scheme which happened on 12.09.2019, 13,29,353 farmers had joined the scheme. As on 23.07.2021, a total of 21,40,262 farmers have joined the scheme.
